About Peonies

Peonies are native to Europe, Asia and North America, and are among the most popular garden flowers. Unsurprisingly they are a symbol for luxury and indulgence as well as happy life and happy marriage. So special are these flowers that the Japanese shield the earliest peony blooms from the snow by protecting them with individual small thatched shelters.

Please be aware that our peonies will arrive in bud and we always leave enough room in our designs for blooms to open fully. This means that not only will you be able to enjoy them for longer but that you will have the pleasure of watching the blooms unfurl their multitudes of fragrant petals.

About our Peony Grower

Angus Scobie grows these popular summer flowers on White’s Farm that was started by his grandfather over 40 years ago. His peonies are renowned for their superb quality with strong stems and large, full heads.  He grows a great number of varieties including the popular ‘Sarah Bernhart’The colours range from a very dark pink cerise through to creams and fresh whites.  Some of his peony plants are over 17 years old. Once harvested the flowers are conditioned and dispatched directly from the farm to us the very next day.

Peony Care Tips

  • If you want to encourage your peony buds to open sooner, rinse their heads under cold water. This should wash away the sap and allow them to bloom more quickly.
  • Peonies are very thirsty flowers, so make sure you keep your base or bowl topped up.
  • Once open, petals should be kept dry, as their delicate nature can make them sensitive to mould.
Seasonal availability will mean that we have to use some different flowers from those seen in the photographs, your flowers will however always have similar colours and be the same shape and size.
