Flowers we love: sweetpeas and cornflowers
27th Jun 2023
In a season where an incredible assortment of flowers are jostling for space, it’s sometimes easy to overlook the smaller varieties when there are such big, blousy stems around! However, there are two dainty blooms that make waves when they make their summer return - sweet peas and cornflower!
The unmistakable scent of a sweet pea and their spectrum of hues conjures up the most idyllic country garden setting, their vines contorting around obelisks before they flourish into delightful frills. Whether it’s a vivid indigo or fluorescent watermelon there isn’t a shade we don’t adore. These fragrant beauties add a charming and romantic element to summer floral displays. Whether used as focal points in bouquets or intermingled with other summer blooms, the sweet pea's graceful presence lends a touch of whimsy and sophistication to every arrangement it graces!
Cornflowers, by contrast, come in fewer tones - but that really doesn’t matter as their signature blue is so iconic! Although you’ll find these growing in flower beds, we associate them far more with wilder landscapes, growing amongst other spindly stems in rolling meadows. Their charm adds a rustic flair to summer bridal bouquets - and unlike other delicate stems, their sturdy structure means they make a great variety in a boutonniere!
The summer season is well underway and we’ll be making the most of these enchanting stems throughout fabulous weddings, flower school workshops, and of course beautiful bouquets.
